Overview

Maynooth University, established in 1997, is ranked as one of the top 100 universities under 50 years old by Times Higher Education.

Maynooth is a truly global university, with students from over 90 different countries currently enrolled, and it is also Ireland’s fastest-growing university. Situated 25 km west of Dublin, the University offers international programmes and partnerships across multiple disciplines, including business, law, science, humanities, education, social sciences and engineering.

Maynooth is a modern institution fostering a collegial culture yet supporting a research-led scholarly tradition. To meet the demands of international employers and the global business environment, Maynooth University provides its students with opportunities to study abroad for one semester or full academic year and graduate with an international degree. The University’s international coordinators help students gain access to more than 200 global universities across five major continents.

Services for International Students

International orientation takes place a week before lectures begin and is designed to introduce students to life at the University and to each other. It includes various workshops and talks, campus tours and introductions to clubs and societies. The Student Buddy Network, run by the International Office, also provides guidance, advice and help to new students.

A free writing centre at Maynooth helps students during each course year, while Student Plus, a  skill development course, enables them to learn more effectively. Students lead a very active life at Maynooth campus (voted as Ireland’s friendliest college in a recent poll of 10,000 students) with its 100+ clubs and societies for pursuing activities of one’s interests. The large and small sports halls, which include a fitness centre and free weights room, allow Maynooth students to seek fitness and physical recreation.

Its state-of-the-art library incorporates the latest IT innovations to allow students to study in collaboration or solitude. Eolas, the University’s newly built and highly advanced ICT centre, offers the latest facilities for research in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, in addition to Maynooth Works, the business incubation support centre for IT and biotech startups.

Location

Maynooth is about 25 km west of Dublin and is Ireland’s only university town. The local area contains a castle, a stately home and beautiful gardens and countryside. The most important historical buildings in the town, including St. Patrick’s College, are within the university campus, some of which were built before the foundation of the college.
